Business strategy – it’s your friend so don’t be afraid of it.
Whether you’ve been in business for years or you’re just starting out, the word ‘strategy’ can sometimes feel a little daunting. But if you’re to continue to make a success of your department or business then you’d be wise to get over any nervousness and get right in there!
The definition of the word ‘strategy‘ is ‘plan of action’. Simple. So when it comes to your cost reduction strategy you need to grab the bull by the horns and pick apart every line of your spreadsheets and budgets.
Never stop asking yourself questions – Why are we paying that much? Is there a better deal out there? Do we really need this? How can we increase our cash flow?
There are of course some costs that will be near impossible to reduce, things like rental charges, council tax or staff wages but there are many more where you can if you just think creatively. What about gas and electricity charges, telephone and broadband or office stationery?
It’s within your power to reduce business costs even if they’re small savings, but they all add up and in this economic climate every little really does help. So, roll up your sleeves, forget scary words and dive into your spreadsheets with your eyes wide open!
